Thoughts and prayers please

Sunday, February 24, 2008

Ok, I'm not sure what all to say about this, because it's kinda sensitive information....and not many people know, even in my family. But I felt it would be a good thing to share with my blog family, and gain your thoughts and prayers.

My cousin has two boys, one 5 years old and one about 8 years old....and one that didn't survive through birth. My cousin's youngest boy (which I guess he would be my second cousin, right?), is 5 years old, in kindergarten. I'm not sure of any details of reason behind this, but he's obviously got some issues upstairs. This last week, while at school, the boy got ahold of a broken piece of shelf (I'm assuming wood). He proceeded to try to slit his wrist with the broken piece of shelf. I'm not sure how much he was able to hurt himself before the teacher saw him. He said he wanted to be in Heaven with his brother, who was stillborn....I'm assuming my cousin has told her two boys all about this. Anyways, he went home, they called his doctor and the doctor suggested to take him to the behavioral unit at a hospital in Tyler. So he has spent about a week there now, only being able to see visitors for an hour a day.

Now, I don't know how a 5 year old even knows about suicide or that you can slit your wrists in the first place. I'm quite certain that they are exposed to less than suitable things at home from their parents (my cousin) and the parents' friends. But still....this just blows my mind. So, I'm just asking that you keep my family/their family in your thoughts and prayers while they deal with this. I know my aunt and uncle (which would be his grandparents), my cousin, and the two boys are really having a hard time through this ordeal.
