Haircut

Thursday, June 22, 2006

So, I'm sitting at Pro-cuts today, waiting about 5 hours in line to get a haircut. This older couple (probably in their mid/late 70's) end up sitting next to me, and the man turns to his wife and proceeds to talk about how "old fashion barbers" did it. So....I listen....

"These young girls in here do it the easy way. Barbers didn't wet your hair to cut it. When you get the hair wet or wash it, that makes it a lot easier to cut."
"They spend too much time cleaning up. Barbers didn't sweep up after every customer. They'd just kick it to the side and sweep at the end of the day."
Etc., etc., etc.

All the while, I'm hoping the wife isn't about to fall over dead...cause she's over there hacking up a lung. I swear I've never heard anyone cough like that. When I finally got in the chair, getting my hair cut, the Pro-cuts lady cutting my hair is obviously bothered by this woman's coughing, hacking, etc. So it made me giggle....quietly...to myself.

And thus, the story resolves itself.....so the old man is called for his haircut, the lady walks him back towards her chair and asks, "Would you like a shampoo today sir?". And he replies, "Oh, yes."....like she should have known that he wouldn't have it any other way.

............and the wife steps outside, as to not continue bothering everyone with her hideous coughing.

Maybe there is no life before death...

Friday, June 16, 2006

No, I'm not smart enough to think up such a deep thought....I got this from a friend's website. He, on the other hand, is a brilliant man. We can talk more about him later if you like. However, I'm struggling with how this quote makes me feel. One part of the brain may think...no, there's not much point to this life here on earth. The other part of the brain will argue...there's plenty of good we can do while here. Our job is actually to make sure the people we encounter along the way don't make a waste of their life before death....by using whatever gifts we've been given to show others the way. So I'd like to see what you think. Is there no life before death? Does our life truly begin at the end of it all? Or is our life here on the wet planet not a waste of time after all, if we use it wisely.....

You may begin now...

Spend more so I can....spend more

So I buy a second pedal board for my elaborate guitar rig, cause I had a couple extra pedals that didn't fit on the one I already had. I get in touch with the guy that makes them down in The Woodlands, since that's what I already have, and I really like it. I get the new board in, and start trying to decide what's going where. But the 3 extra pedals I wanted to add to my setup look very disappointing on a pedal board that will hold 8-10 pedals (depending on their size). So now I'm trying to figure out what wonderful effects need to be added to my already amazing setup to fill up this new board. And the things I like always seem to be the pricey ones.....it's a vicious cycle, but totally necessary....I guess.

First...

So, I decided the time had come to let others in on the deep, intimate, insane thoughts that run around inside me....for some reason. So here it is....my blog. Enjoy it. Cherish it. Nourish it. Contribute to it. You know, make me feel special so I'll keep posting new stuff. It'll be fun....right? Since others seem to think so, there must be something to it. So....here's the first....
